Purdue is no offensive pushover either, boasting the nation’s most efficient offense. They play at a very slow tempo (325th in adjusted tempo) and will avoid a pace battle with Arizona, instead focusing on ball control and limiting possessions. Their efficiency should compensate. I think Purdue coach Matt Painter recognizes that scoring above their usual rate is key to winning, given Arizona’s defensive advantage. The only way this stays under is if Arizona shoots unusually poorly. The Wildcats didn’t lose any game this season when shooting 45% or better and scored under 70 points just once. If they miss shots, Purdue will slow the pace further, likely ending Arizona’s run.
